Marching Orders Help & Information

Please use the form on the Contact Us page for all Marching Orders inquiries.

1. What if I don’t have an AirPrint capable printer?

Many of us don’t yet have an AirPrint enabled printer and it’s foolish to replace a perfectly good printer. There are inexpensive (or free) utilities that let you use a desktop Mac’s printer sharing services to print to most all printers, including laser printers. I use the following utility which works great for my old Epson inkjet and a Brother laser printer:

2. Will there be an iPad version when Marching Orders is released?

The iPad will run the first release version of the Marching Orders App in “iPhone mode” and all functionality will be available! In general, the design of the App has focused on the phone because of its portability and an initial belief that our resources are best directed to that device. However, we will certainly be listening to our users. If there is a demand for using the larger screen of the iPad and iPad mini, we will be developing a dedicated iPad version!

3. Will you be offering a “free” version of the Marching Orders App?

No. We do not believe that a free version would serve anyone’s needs, including (and in particular) our customers. Instead, we will be discounting version 1.0 to encourage and reward first users of the App.

It should be obvious that every developer needs a source of income to keep working and make their App(s) better in every new version. That said, a “free” version would have to contain ads or be a “hook” in a bigger marketing plan.

We want the App to be of significant value in and of itself and are not planning it to be part of a future product or service that people would get charged for in order to keep using a “free” App. And we definitely do not want ads interfering with the use of Marching Orders. It is a “productivity tool” and we feel strongly that anything interfering with the user’s productivity would be very undesirable!

4. What features can I expect in future versions of the Marching Orders App?

First and most important is that we will be listening to our customers and make every effort to respond with quick fixes to any problems encountered and prioritize enhancements based upon what is being requested.

From there, here are a few features that we are already working on. In some cases we decided to hold a feature out of the first release pending a determination of whether or not people will really want it. It is important that the App not become bloated with extraneous features that are hard to use or simply not relevant to most users.

  • Picture annotation (the ability to draw simple shapes over one’s images to highlight things of importance)
  • Save to iCloud and Dropbox.
  • Enhanced templates for the Marching Orders PDF output.
  • Marching Orders viewer app that receives the marching orders via cell/wifi.

Take Some Pictures

There is no "right way" to do it but most will find the easiest first step to be taking pictures that illustrate what you want the recipient of your Marching Orders to focus on. The app will let you crop and scale any photo if needed.

Dictate Some Text

Use Speech to Text if your device supports it to make this a really fast process or type in what you like for titles and/or descriptions. Pictures will help to minimize how much you need to enter to give good instructions!

Print Marching Orders!
